Last week, my dad let my son sit on his Goldwing. Being of my stock, my son was thrilled. He asked Pawpaw if he could have 'a ride on the motacycle'. Pawpaw happily obliged. Fun was had by all.

Book Review: Joshua

I have been following Wilson for over a year now, and i check his blog on an almost daily basis. About a year ago, he started writing a book. Apparently, he wanted feedback from the blogging community, and posted several of the chapters online. I read the first chapter on a lark, and i was hooked. I checked his blog regularly, not only for the gun content, but also for new chapters. I read and sent feedback for the first 7 chapters, until life got in the way, but i truly enjoyed those first 7. A few weeks ago, Wilson contacted me, and informed me that as thanks for my feedback, he wanted to gift me a copy. Low and behold, it arrived Saturday.

I couldn't put it down. I stayed up till midnight Saturday, and only turned off the light then for fear of waking up my wife with my reading lamp. Sunday was a repeat, and i finished around 11pm. 320 pages in 35 hours, and that with substantial breaks for playing with my son, hanging out with family, and snuggling with my wife.

It was a page turner.

There were a few rough patches, mechanically, as a few scenes seemed to have rough transitions, but it was an amazing book, and it is his first published piece. The writing is clear and to the point, and has enough ornamentation to build a scene in your mind without having so much as to take away from the story. The book sucks you in and won't let go until you hit the back cover.

As for me, i can't wait to spend green dollars on his next book!

Officer Down Memorial Page

I was just introduced to a website, Officer Down Memorial Page. It lists all officers in the US who die in the line of duty. If you know a cop, or appreciate what cops do, go over and look. Pay tribute to these brave fallen, and send up prayers for their family and souls.

I have added it to my blogroll, although it is technically not a blog.

Fallen brethren, you are not forgotten.

And We Have Created A Monster

My wife and I decided to do some cooking and invite my brother and his wife over last night. I smoked 2 chickens on the grill, along with some asparagus and potatoes. Dinner was great, and the company was better, but that isn't the point of this post.

Sister in law's fist comment to me after they showed up and pleasantries were exchanged was: 'i brought my new guns!'

Being a gun guy, i was happy to look at them. She had bought a Diamondback 9mm, and a Ruger LCR. Both are nice guns. She then proceeded to put on a holster, and carry the LCR.

After dinner, we went out to my backyard range, and did some light shooting. I brought out my Springfield 1911, loaded a magazine, and asked if she wanted to shoot a gun that has had virtually no design changes in over 100 years. She happily agreed, and after putting 7 rounds downrange, she smiled, and asked what she just shot.

'A 1911. It's a .45 caliber handgun.'

Her eyes got big. 'I just shot a .45?'

'Yes ma'am.'

'I want one!'

This from a woman who just took her concealed carry class 3 weeks ago. 3 weeks ago, she owned 1 gun, a Firestorm .380. She now owns 3, and wants a 4th.

We have created a monster.

And I couldn't be happier. 

Easter Egg Hunt

We've are enjoying the easter egg hunt put on for the kiddies by the town of Pollock. It's a great venue for the kids, and they have a lot of fun. As you can see, my son is full of cheeseyness today.

Day Trippin'

This past week, an old friend of my wife's came down to visit. This weekend, we took her out to see some of our favorite local spots. We took her to a local greasy spoon for some good grub, and took her to the cemetery where we got married. While at said cemetery, we looked at some of my family's graves. My son bent down, and said 'Thats our name!'

It was a good picture opportunity.
